Fake shopping sites and too-good deals

Huge discounts on a site you've never heard of are a red flag.

4 min read

Fake online stores advertise popular products at very low prices, take payment, and never deliver, or send something worthless.

Red flags

  • Prices far below everywhere else
  • A new website with no contact address or phone number
  • Payment only by wire, payment app, crypto or gift card
  • Social media ads for a store you can't find elsewhere

Protect yourself

  • Search the store name with "scam" or "reviews"
  • Pay with a credit card, which gives you dispute rights
  • Report fake sites at ReportFraud.ftc.gov
